I am creating a spread sheet to track some things at work. I want to be able to randomly search for whatever I may put in the sheet.

Is this possible? If so, then how.

what kind of stuff are you trying to search? i.e. why isn't ctrl f gonna work for you?

you can use a pivot table to do it, but it's overkill unless you have a really huge data set

CTRL+F will work, but I am trying to make it as easy as possible for other employees to search. We have some older employees who have no clue how to use a PC, but yet still insist on doing so.

If they see a spot that says "Search" that they can click on to bring up a search box, they will get it and know how to use it easier.

Simple

I am using excel 2003 so it may be different than your version. but you can put the binoculars or find button on the toolbar. Just go to View, Toolbars, then select Customize. Click the commands tab, click edit, then arrow down to the find or binoculars command. Drag it up by the font toolbar. Now with the customize box still open right click on the binoculars on the bar that you just dragged up there. Now you can change the picture or the text that it shows up. Of course you can move it anywhere on the bar.

Here is a screen print with the button:

ahhh that might be more difficult then - the pivot table search isn't especially intuitive - certainly not more so than going to Edit > Find

I added the Find button before I asked the question. I will see if they can figure it out. If not, I might have to get with you Ryan.

Have you thought about using dropdown boxes to select things?
