Is there a way to test the motor and controller with a multimeter to tell if it’s bad?

No way to check the drive without powering it up. You could check the motor electrically. If it has two large wires going to it, you could take one off, and then put your meter on ohms and take a reading from one large motor terminal to the other. You should get a fairly low reading if it's good.

I looked at it and didn’t offer 800 but mentioned it. He got the hint and threw out that he turned down 1200. The batteries read 3v. I didn’t unhook the motor but it read 1ohm. It was fine I guess, needed some rusty suspension parts replaced. Not worth the risk to save $600 (on the lucky side).

Guess I should update. I got a 2012 Club Car Precedent for $3000 about a month ago. The fella said batteries are a year old and they test and perform like it. It needed new springs and control armsso it turned out to be a great cart for around $3150. I’ve been keeping a diligent eye on FB and CL and there’s absolutely zero donor carts out there. This was almost a bargain.

It needs a paint job, new back seat, and new roof supports to be shiny and new. That won’t happen for quite some time, if ever. A seat is $350 min (400-500 for a good one and 700 for a “nice” one). An extended roof to cover the back seat is 700. It seems impossible to be able to flip these things.
