The fun begins where the pavement ends
One the POS stereo I am pulling out of my '98 sometimes when it quits if I pull out the parking brake it release it will turn back on. Or sometimes hit the top off my dash. Is there a bad ground causing all this or what? My new JVC will be grounded right to the firewall so hopefully that solves this. I also bought a new parking brake switch in case there is a parking brake lead or something causing the wierd issue with the p-brake.

the swtiched hot, or the ground id loose somewhere.

also check your fuse box. sometimes the fuses can get condensation built up on em and loose there contact.

Check for a wire (hot or ground) near the path of the park brake or its' cable. That wire may be getting pinched. Unplug park brake switch to see if that stops the problem. Check the hot wire for short to ground. Check for grounding continuity to the radio ground (should be none outside of the wire). The stock radio will shut off if there is a transient power spike or drop to protect itself.
If you don't lose the radio memory, it's not the constant hot. If you lose memory, check constant hot.
I wouldn't expect direct hot to ground short, that should blow the fuse. Intermittent hot could cause symptoms. Loss of ground could cause what you describe.

DO ALL CHECKING WITH RADIO OUT OF CIRCUIT, and extra fuses nearby.

Get back to us with more symptoms if this doesn't fix it.

:iamwithstupid: :D

I'm going back to all my old threads and udpating them.

Here's my current status. I installed my JVC saturday afternoon. I grounded it to a hole in a dashboard crossbrace. I grabbed the Ford diagnostics book and started to check simple & stupid things. I checked to make sure all the Radio fuses were good and they were, exept Fuse #20 was a 5 amp instead of a 7.5 amp. Not blown but just incorrect. So far though all my issues have so far (knock on wood) gone away. I really like this JVC, I have it set to colour #26, which matches my dash lights quite nicely:D
