Another Waggy Swap

I have no idea. I have never heard of people having an easy time getting inspected though (except for the illegal kind) so I just ASSumed everywhere is a PITA for inspection.

Well, It keeps looking like a spring over front, stock 4.0 4WD trans/T-case thing... of death. I will try to pull the axles and springs from the GW on Sunday... check them out, do the locking hub conversion to the front and pick up some 3/8" thick 2-1/2" box tube and start thinking about new perches. High steer would be nice, but I can't afford new knuckles (and having them set up) right now.

My intended use is daily driving and bad weather driving with 31-33 inch tires, some trail driving and mild to moderate off roading. The spring over should net me 3-4 inches of lift from stock though (I think) so I only need to lift the rear... and that should be enough lift for anything I plan to do with this thing. I will need to trim my front fenders though.

::EDIT::
I don't want to have to teach my wife how to shift, so I will stick with an auto trans. :)

Does California have a safety inspection now? I don't remember one when last I lived there.
they inspect salvage vehicles and i think out of state transfers.never got a bad time over lifts so long as there are flares and flaps on the truck.there are some rediculously tall trucks going up and down the highway here.

if you don't have some scary welded steering or something,it probably won't get looked at twice at that height and tire size.a lot of dumb ass cops won't even know if it came with a solid axle stock

Still researching and planning/thinking at this point. I dont want to have to redo this in 6 months. But this hasn't died.

My wife has been in the hospital for the last week and a few days so I haven't had alot of time for this lately, I did find a front bumper/front shackle mount I like on here, so I plan to rip that idea off, but with a different look... don't want a carbon copy of someone else's custom truck, right? Doesn't look like I'll make it to Pick'n pull's half off sale this weekend, so there goes my cheap...er hi-steer plan. :)

Anyone know if the Ranger's power steering set up is beefier than that on the 87 Grand Waggy? I was thinking of grabbing the waggy's steering box when I yank the axles off. I don't expect it to fit, but I can whip up a mount and backplate to spread the load out to more of the chassis. The truck around the street from my sister's house tore the steering box away from the boxed chassis. It looks like it just ripped the tubes they welded in for the bolts to go though loose from the frame rail, breaking the welds, so I think a nice beefy backplate would prevent that.

But, untill my wife gets out of the hospital, I am just sitting here with the laptop, looking at pics, planning and plotting while these chairs, and the "food" slowly kill me.
