another trans swap Q.

ive been looking around and even asked before but have found mixed anwser's. ive got a chance to get a 5 sp out of an 88 2.9 ranger 4x4 for 91 4.0 ranger 4x4. he said 200 for everything to convert it over. will i run into problems with this trans? ive got some people telling me there the same and it will work fine and others saying they wouldnt do it. how much weaker are these trans than my (slipping,park pin broked) a4ld? (lol) if i need a different trans which years will work. i dont mind doing the swap(actually prefer to) but if an a4ld is cheaper,stronger and better. ill do that thanks guys!

if it is an M5ODr1 then it is fine but the 2.9 flywheel, clutch, and starter do not go with the 4.0L, you need a flywheel/clutch for a 4.0L........... and you need a manual transmission computer from a 5spd 4.0L for the 91.

if the transmission is not an M5ODr1 then you need to keep looking...... I would look for an M5ODr1HD from a SOHC 4.0L

searching for an "HD" isn't as hopeless as searching for kuggerands under
the back seats in junkyard Dodge Omni's, but it's in the same league.
