another re gearing question

2002 4.0 sohc

currently 8.8 with 3.55 with 33x12.5 tires

i lost all my low end, i used to be able to do 80 up a 6% grade with a quad in the back in overdrive.

now the damn thing pretty much cant get out of its own way going up a hill but cruises fine every where else

purchased an expo 8.8 with 3.73 was planning on putting 4.10's in it and swapping it in.

my question is, how much of a jump from the 3.55 to 3.73 will it be, would it be worth it to just run the 3.73? are 4.10 much better or should i go straight to 4.56s?

i do mild towing, quads dirtbikes and what not and sometime a 18 foot flatbed. with misc stuff on it.

I'm guessing you used to have 235/75/16, so a 4.10 gear would put you back as close as you will get to stock.

not 100% sure but i know it measured about 29.5 x 9

4.10 and 33s would good together but 35s are big for 4.10s at least 4.56 for 35s. the cheapest way would be to find a 4.10 truck or explorer in the junk yard and get the rears that way. Regearing is expensive.

i already have an expo 8.8 in my garage, and i know the owner of a re gearing shop here in SD, so ill pretty much get it installed labor free.

I have 4.56 with 285/75/16's and love it... with the 4.0 and A4ld... do this

100% agreed.

I have 4.10s and bald 33s and it's adequate, but that's about it. You have the SOHC V6 which I think would like a deeper gear even more so than with the OHV engine I have.
