Hey guys got a question about mpg. Im looking at getting a 97 Ranger with a 4.0 and a 5 speed and on 35's. Does anyone have an idea (in the ballpark) of what mpg i would be getting? Truck looks sweet but parents are more worried about mpg then looks. Thanks

MPG has MANY variables, including your driving style and what operating condition the truck is in. If you don't drive it like you stole it and it runs well, the next thing we'll need to know is what gears it has and what transmission. These will also affect your driving style somewhat.

I agree with Sunk, there are too many variables to tell you what it will get but YOU have the biggest effect on it. That being said I can get over 15 out of my 86 2.9L 5spd on 33s with 4.10s. mixed 1/2 city 1/2 highway

A 4.0 4x4 with 35s? 10-15 mpg depending on how you drive, huge amounts of rotating (35s) mass eat up power. I'm sure you would buy one for off road fun and not fuel mileage or daily driving.

do you have any idea what gears are in the axles?

if you're looking for mpgs get a stock 4 banger ranger.. or even a stock 3.0 or 4.0, but NOT one on 35's

my B2 is a stock 2.9, soon to be on 35's lol
if it gets 1 mpg more that my 5.2 dakota i'll be happy. if not then oh well.
i mean even my bone stock 2.8 s10 only gets ~21

i've decided if its a truck, its gonna have shitty gas mileage compared to a car.

i'd say you'd get about 14 driving like a normal person. and you might be able to push 17 highway

If it's anything like my B2, 12-14.5...

My 5.2 Dakota gets way better mileage than my B2 :thefinger:

35's are really useless on the highway, Bro. I run 33's with an 4:10 gear on my 99 Ranger and I get right at 24 mpg on the highway (not hauling a boat). I don't get that much milage around town and hauling stuff of course. It comes out to 18-19 around town. When I haul a boat over 100 miles or more at times I never think about gas milage or it would drive you nuts.

depends on gears. with the correct gearing, its gonna make all the difference in the world. there is plenty of rotationg mass to move to, and engine maintenance, and driving habit make all the difference.

id say 12 MPG to be safe.

I've got a 96 4.0L on 35's i love it, but personally if i was worried about milege, i would never have it, i get about 15-17 mpg on the highway depending on how i drive and lucky if i get 10 mpg's around town like what was said earlier 35's eat massive power and even more gas

If your worried about gas, dont get it bro...

21 MPG hwy should be possible on that truck, but like everyone else has already said, there's just so many variables that will affect it (what axle ratio it has, and your driving style being the biggest two factors).

My '94 4.0L on 33s gets 21, on rare occasion, 22 MPG doing 60 MPH.
Around town (mixed) mileage averages between 17-18. I have 4.10 gears which is a slight bit under what's ideal for 33s.

Pumping the tires up real hard (35 PSI) will improve MPG at some expense of ride quality, and evenness of tread wear (though if you wheel it aired down a lot, it can help even the treadwear out a bit... or so has been the case on my BII anyway).

According to the ad he has BBK headers, Jet performance chip, K&N airfilter and oil filter, and a throttle body spacer. Really cherry looking ranger and I probably wouldn't run the 35's after the first set runs out I would probably move down to 33's and then My dad and I can regear it.
