Another grille question

I've been reading threads for the last two hours and can't seem to find the answer I need. I just got a 2003 xlt with the chrome bar grill. I have learned here that it is a closed grille. Anyway I want to change it to one of the black style grilles. I have a line on a cheap 2005 grille but I don't want to waste money on it if it won't fit. I understand the grille surrounds are different. My 03 has a lower hood lip and the top edge of the surround is more narrow. The 05's hood lip is higher and the grille surround is wider on top... Other than that they appear to have the same dimensions. So my question is can I swap out the grille insert only? I want to remove the chrome 'bar' type grille from my 03 and install the black style of the 05? I've seen all sorts of other swaps on here but not this specifically. Any suggestions or pics would be much appreciated. THANKS.

BTW the 05 comes in two parts so I know the insert detaches.

seems like u cant swap inserts, try for the same chrome grille u have, but the gray one, u can paint it black, or the edge honeycomb type, but ull need the surrounding too
