On my 88 there is a wire from the key switch causes the alarm to sound when the door is opened. I simply unplugged it, and now it only sounds when my lights are on and the door is open. It will go out when I turn the lights off. It helps me remember to turn the lights off after driving in the rain.
i hate that damn bell, every time i open the door to listen to music(home, desert party's) that stupid thing dings to loud. just want to tap into the wire and put a switch on the e-brake so when its down it disconnects the bell. so when i park it will beep so i dont forget the lights. anyone know where its located?
IIRC, the '95&up ones are WAAAAYYYY up under there as part of a big control module unit. I think I've heard it's easier to get at it by pulling out the instrument gauge cluster on the dash.
I'm sure Ford made it more difficult when they canged the dashes in 95, but on my 93, it is just right under the dash, very easy to find if you listen for the dinging. On mine, when I found the box (took 5 seconds) you could feel the box vibrating as the chime went off, so that is how I was sure it was it before unplugging it.
well i found the damn bell and found the wire from the key to it cut it and added a momentary pressure switch to the e-brake and make a bracket. works great 2 clicks and the bell goes away. think when i get some time i will do a write up on how to to what i just did and what parts to use and pm it to jim to put it in the tech section for people who hate the damn bell and would love to do what i did. o and its to the left of the radio.
its called the GEM module. behind the radio, mounted on the left "wall" like you said. there's info on how to re-wire it to stop the chime on RPS or generationedge.com, can't remember which. i was just reading about it the other day. looks like you already got yours taken care of tho...
