It's also a safety issue. That's one reason AMP meters were removed. This prevents all that amperage going into the cab from the battery junction. It was a huge source of failure, and fires, if the wiring shorted.
Me, I like having an AMP meter; but I take precautions to prevent failure. You have to drill the entry point for the wiring larger than the wire. Then install an insulation grommet in that hole. The wire(s) then go through that hole(s). The grommet prevents the insulation from being rubbed away to bare copper.
That said, if you don't feel you can do the job right, don't install an AMP meter.
