Wondering what you guys experience with this behavior. Cold startup, the thing hits 2K (occasionally hits almost 2500), then slowly drops off from there. Once I start driving, I'm getting 700-800 RPM @ idle. Hot startup behaves the same way with the exception of the idle drops much more quickly down to 700~ or so.
Is this normal behavior? Makes my teeth itch on a cold start and having it rev that high on min initial oil pressure. Is this IAC I got off amazon misbehaving, or is this expected behavior? If so, is there a particular one I can get that is known to function properly? The thing runs like a champ other than this behavior, which could be normal for all I know. I'm not having the issues I see normally regarding IAC complaints... hunting, really high hot idle speeds, etc... just this startup behavior. Opinions?

Motorcraft or Hitachi IAC’s are preferred for our Rangers, as they use true solenoids instead of the stepper motors many aftermarket IAC’s use. Sometimes you can find them on Ebay. Even a parts yard Motorcraft would be better.

Does the behavior displayed in the video look abnormal to you? I've been having trouble finding how exactly this thing is supposed to behave at startup.

Seems normal to me.

Seems normal to me.

Just seemed like a little bit aggressive to me with the initial high RPM on startup. And since this has had a faulty IAC since I got it, I didn't know what was normal. I'll just let it go then if that's the case. Appreciate the input.

I think it looks pretty normal too. She settles in quick enough.

That initial "flare" feels worse when it's below 10 degrees.
