Am I toast? Serious frame damage

It's a balance of cost to manufacture and what the consumer is willing to put up with. There is also the fact that manufacturer's want to keep selling vehicles. They can't do that if people don't have a reason to replace them, outside of the latest conveniences and gadgets. Not to mention, most people don't keep vehicles around as long as we do, let alone do proper maintenance in order to keep them running. Hell, most people don't even know how to work to begin with and are unwilling to learn.
Not that long ago, though, pickups were considered (sort of) commercial vehicles and had an expected lifespan of 20 years. In theory a 1970 F-100 would have been used until about 1990. Back then the rust problem wasn't as acute. You're probably right about the mindset today. But we see fewer cars with serious rust problems, and some Euro manufacturers have a long rust-through warranty on car bodies.

Applying undercoating to the frame at the factory during assembly would have been cheap and makes a lot of sense. We've had too many members here have to retire good Rangers or jump through hoops to repair them because of frame rot. Also, seeing $75,000 Super Duties with cab corners gone is simply ridiculous.

Given it is spelt Aluminium in English (versus 'merican), getting the pronunciation correct is easy. :thefinger:

The day I take linguistic advice from a region that still largely respects the idea of a monarchy is the day hell freezes over 👊🏻 lol
