i feel like one, i am trying to get the balancer off my 2.3 and am at a loss... ive never seen a balancer puller which would attach to it. it doesnt have bolt holes for a pulley. am i missing something? there is a simple/stupid solution right? HELP!

Your not the idiot, the guy that designed that system is. The pulley is a slip fit, They are SUPPOSED to slide off. The problem is that they get rusted on. You may be able to wiggle/work it off but, I've had to destroy them to get them off before. You may be able to use a jaw type puller, either a small 2 jaw on the center hub or a large three jaw on the pulley part.
In 25+ years of working on these I've never seen a tool made for this.

thank you, i feel better about myself now. :D i guess this thing was a duh moment! thanks for the reply.

SWEEEET! i applied even pressure with 2 pry bars on either side of the balancer and VIOLA! it slid right off. tanks again!

I made a slide hammer setup that used a old pulley housing.bolts on using the 4 bolts then welded a nut to the center for a short bolt and big piece of steel with a hole in it.

im sure the balancer puller i have would have worked... IF my balancer had the bolt on pulley style balancer you are refering to, but mine was the kind M.P. mentioned.

When you put it back on, use a scotch brite pad on the crank and inside the pulley. Then use a little wheel bearing grease on the inside of the pulley. Next time it will slide off the way it is supposed to.

tis called a harmonic balancer, they can be bought if you don't wanna build your own, but that's cool too i guess
