Am I able to do this tranny swap?

I have an 85 ranger 2.8v6 automatic. I Recently bought a 3.0 tranny from a 94 ranger with 60,00 miles. Does anyone know if this trans will fit in my 85? I know they are both a4ld transmissions but I'm not sure if I can pull this off. Please any ideas would be greatly appreciated!

I'm not entirely sure... but As far as I know the 3.0L has a different bolt pattern then the 2.8L... luckly however... the 2.8L, 2.9L and 4.0L all are in the same engine family and share the same bolt pattern for the trans and even the flywheel (and auto equivilent) and stuff can be interchanged.

I know the other engines will work I am not entirely sure on the 3.0L but I think not.

no you can use 2.8, 2.9 and the 4.0 trans with some internal mods
you have a 85 that has no electronics in it and in 87 they put in the lockup tc solenoid

Thanks for the info guys. Those pages helped me out alot to look for the right information I need. It looks like I'm going to have to find another transmission! I just want a good one but they want 1500$ to rebuild mine. I'll figure it out. Thanks again guys!
