So a few days ago I got my Midland 1001Z radio... I have a magnetic mount antenna I am using, and I already had the antenna tuned to the spot on the pickup. I plugged the antenna into the radio, and installed the radio, turned it on, and this weekend I drove all around Omaha and couldn't get any chatter. Do I need to get someone with a SWR meter and hook it up?

I met up with a friend who had the same radio also, but he didn't have an antenna because it broke off, and he could talk to me (it was pretty quiet though) but he couldn't hear me when I talked.

Thoughts/Ideas?

I would definitely be looking to get ahold of a meter (may want to actually buy yourself one so that it'll always available. They are not expensive). There's really no other way to find out for sure whether your antenna is working properly, or if your radio itself might have a problem.

Yeah, I bought a meter, ended up returning it, and I just took the antenna (with an old radio that ended up not working) and got it tuned.

Thanks
