Alltel + Verizon = Crappy Service

i have verizon, no problems with low signal.

But being as they switched over the towers you may have to dial *228 then hit send. The phone should connect and do what it needs to then automatically disconnect.

Basically what this is supposed to do is update the local tower/area that your phone will use. If i were confirm with a verizon tech if this is something that you should do, and if you do dial it when you are home, that way it does not get all whacked out and think you are constantly roaming.

I have Cellular South and they are great. Some good friends of mine have alltel/verision and say since the change over that their service has dropped and plans have gone up in price. Allhell and I had a falling out several years ago about a warranty claim on a phone

i live in virginia in a small mountain town and around here we got appalchia wireless and verizon. i have verizon and my signal sucks and i can see the tower from my house. but people with appalachia wireless have great services i am thinking real hard about switching. and my phone is a samsung sway a piece of junk.

you know what ..... i got a txt telling me to do that very same thing, the phone needed to be re programmed....

All depends who has better service in your location. I have Sprint, as I mentioned the signal was lousy at my office in town in New Castle, PA. Inside nothing, if I walked out to the parking lot I'd get one bar, two if the wind was blowing right. Then one day I had a bid a few miles north in farm country, middle of friggin' nowhere. No one home. Out of habit I whipped out my phone to leave a message, and I see I have five bars. WTF??? Called Sprint to bitch about it and that's when I found out about this Airave thing, which they sent me for free.

Hey Jim, did you try updating your phone's roaming software? I found out that you have to do that once in awhile to get a phone to recognize new towers. Not everyone will tell you that though, dunno why. I think it's *228 or #228 for Verizon, not sure about other companies.

I'm not overly happy with Verizon either though, when we first bought the property for our new house, you could get cell service anywhere on the property. Of course, I had one of the old Nokia bricks back then... Then they went to digital only signal and insisted that I had to get a new phone with 911 GPS. Since then, I can't get a call out of here if my life depended on it. And no other cell provider has service here either. We've done a lot of complaining to Verizon (our whole valley lost service) and they claimed they were going to put in a tower just for servicing the valley and it would be operational two years ago.... yea, it still hasn't happened.

I've had Verizon for almost 7 years now and I can't complain about anything other than the phones themselves. That's hardly a Verizon issue, it's a manufacturing product quality issue.

+1
used to have sprint years ago, worst customer service. switched to verizon not to mention signal everywhere including on airplanes, they have fantastic customer service and don't hassle you about new phones as long as you pay insurance when you buy them.
