A few years ago I worked on using compressed air to run an old lawnmower engine and it worked reasonably well. I was wondering if anyone considered trying something similar on a larger scale? Rangers are fairly light weight and with a manual tranny a smaller two or four cylinder engine running on compressed air might be feasible. Of course the bed would be the perfect place for the tanks too!!:yahoo:

running engines on air is very inefficient unless its an external combustion (hot air engine) like the old sterlings were back in like the 20's, but still not very efficient.

Yeah I figured that electric would be better but thought I would check to see if anyone here had experimented with the concept. I considered using a solar oven I built to run a steam powered air compressor to fill the air tanks. I have several scavenged high pressure tanks mounted in my uncles garage I got from a bottleling plant that closed a few years ago. If batteries werent so expensive this alternate energy thing would be so much easier!!:icon_thumby:

When I saw the topic the first thing that came to mind was a flying ranger.

no none of this electric crap...or hydrogen or solar crap....steam is the future!!!! nuclear power ranger!!!

sorry for the spelling and typeing

Nawww....nitromethaine or how ever you spell it. Just get up to high speed a coast.

I'd still like to score one of the old electric Rangers that were so common around here in the early 90's....

Me too. I remember those rolling around.

Oh btw, I was living on 10 and gratiot at the time.

compressed air is actually used in india to power delivery trucks.i haven't studied it too much, but if they are using it it must work.drives my die grinder pretty good.
