Air Filter Mod 96 Ranger

I did it on my 3.0L the only thing is a shower drain check out the filter mod on the tech section. and you shoulda used the old housing as a splash guard........... mmmm

If I did that it would create a suction from the snorkel, something I am trying to avoid. With it mounted the way it is, I am drawing in air from all directions, not just from the snorkel. But thanks for the reply:icon_thumby:

I did something similar for a first attempt on mine.
After hydrolocking :-(

I blocked off the hole in the innner fender with a coffe can lid and sheet metal screws.
Cut two inches out of the factory tube to get the filter box away from the coffee can lid.( both original halves stayed connected with the metal band)

Great mod man, considering the cash you spent. The whole point of this mod being raising the physical height of the air entrance. Im the next best thing to an ID10t and I can see the benefit in that. I love the way people OFFER an idea and jackhole peckerheads gotta come bash it like they was forced to read it. geez.

Thanks Froggy...I can understand where the other members are coming from, but I'm not designing a true cold air system, I was designing an intake system that I could go wheelin with and not worry about sucking water into my engine when I find a water puddle on the trails...

so wait from the pic above. Is that before or after the mod? Im interested to see if this works. great write up

Those pics were long before the mod, this was the second time my air filter got a muddy water cleaning....I got tired of testing my luck of my engine drinking water and not hydrolocking, not to mention not being able to wheel when I do get water in the intake for an hour or two...

So then so far you have been happy with this and little to no problems? I am going mudding tomarrow so im considering doing it tomarrow lol

Yeah, I have had no problems and very happy with it, have had no negative issues, no loss of power or anything....I highly advise it

there is hope, K&N makes a cover you can slip over your (Cold Air Intake) you loses a little air flow but you wont suck up as much water. But they are kinda $$. And won't work if you hit the really deep stuff. I want to do the Land Cruiser FJ-60 snorkle mod on mine but its Mega $$ that i don't have.
