I've read that aerostars have finned drums. What year aerostar would have dums that fit the 8.8?

As far as I know, aerostars only came with 7.5 axles. Correct me if I'm wrong tho.

Rob

The finned drums are the 10 inch brakes. They will not fit on 9 inch brakes.

They are finned on Exploders and Rangers that have 10 inch brakes as well.

What years explorers?

I don't want to come across as calling someone like you out Makg, but I've got 2 explorer 8.8's with 10" brakes and neither have finned drums. maybe they switched over at some point?

not all the 10 in drums are finned. which explorers came with them?

Brilliant. thanks Captain

Hmm, mine does. But I do know that they are far from factory original (I've got 260K miles).

I suppose it could be the parts guys doing me a favor.

Those 10 inch brakes are ENORMOUS.

yea, all the rangers/ explorers that come through the shop with the 10" brakes have all had the smooth drums

2wd Aerostars with the 4.0 had 8.8 rear ends. I don't think it matters whether it is 7.5 or 8.8. Only 9" or 10". The Ranger 7.5 and 8.8 axles use the same axle shafts so, the drums should be identical.
