I went to the junk yard Friday and bought a one piece shaft out of a Ford station wagon. It is a 3" diameter tube and 5" longer than i need. Cut the tube 5" from the end to find out it has another tube inside it. The inner tube is heavy wall like 1/8" thick. It has 1/2 wide rubber O rings between the two tubes. Strangest thing I've ever seen. My first thought was to pull the inner tube out. Thats not going to happen! So then I thought I could drive it in farther with my sledge hammer. Yea right. I think my best bet is to take a dremmel and cut a 1/2" off the end of it just so I can slip the yoke in unless someone has a better idea. There was one O ring in the 5" I cut off but I have no idea how many more are in there. My thought was some RTV would replace the one I cut out.

Were both tubes welded to the yoke flange?

Or was the inside tube just jammed against the yoke flange?

There's a couple ways to do it, maybe.......got any pics?

It end's about an inch before the yoke. I'll post pic's tonight. RB

Right now it sounds like an anti-vibration tube......because of the long drive shaft.....

That sucks. If I were in that predicament, and didn't have another piece of tube to use, I'd take a worn down cutoff wheel and see if I couldn't cut the last inch off the inner tube.

I took my dremel and slowly cut a 1/2" off! That sucked. The slip yoke that came with my Tcase takes the 1 3/16 cap U joint so i used one that fit my new shaft but i'm going to have to find a different seal for the T case because the smaller U joint slip yoke is smaller in diameter. My local parts guy always shakes his head when I walk in. I can see his face already.LOL RB

I just finished reading the whole thread and your van is badass!! Just wanted to know if you got the gremlins fixed yet.

I have figured out the gremlins. My original motor mounts with 250,000 miles on them cannot take the extra torque added to them by the wider bell housing and t case. Actually just the driver side one. So I'm either going to try a new one or go solid. I've got another project in the garage hindering progress on the van.
