Aerostar 4X4

I finished the first tire. It took me 2 hours and a 1/4 bottle of MAP gas. Think it will pay off? I'm looking at 6+ hours to finish them. ????????????????????

siping

oooohhh have fun siping tires man....i siped a set of 40'' baja belteds.....12 hours later it still sucked.....

So all I needed were two bearings for the front pig but man they dont give that stuff away. Cheapest I could find locally was $60 something for 2 bearings. I ended up buying a National "KIT" for $75 that had all 4 bearings and some other crap in it. So I brought that home today and got started on it. Spent most my time cleaning out the crap that is packed into every crevice of the front axle. It was from a Mud truck so that's why I needed new bearings. Tomorrow I'm going to my local steel provider to see if I can find a tube to build my rear drive shaft out of. Hopefully by Sat night the drive train will be done. Then she'll go on the trailer and head to the bumper guy's house. RB

is there anyone else that can barely wait to see action pics of this????

i know im not the only one.....great job rulebreaker, you give us lazy guys some motivation to go build something......

Well nothing has gone as planned this weekend but I'm still making progress. First the local steel provider don't have and cut off's the right size to build my rear shaft from. They don't even have a full stick of it. If they order me a 60" piece of it it will be $75. So I'm holding out right now for a better deal. Then I went to put the pinion in and remembered that my oil slings are junk and I have no yoke. Nobody around here carries the oil slings so i decided it was time to place an order with Jeff's Bronco Graveyard. I need front shocks so I decided last night to come up with a plan for that and get them ordered too. So last night I ordered the axle parts I needed and shocks. I got a set of Supperlift 3-4" lift shocks for a 78-79 Bronco. They are 22.9" extended and 13.9" collapsed. They have a stud on top and eyelet on bottom. This allowed me to use the stock Bronco and stock Aerostar shock mounts. I just had to Modify both a little. I've got the PS one done. Here is a pic. The shock is just to line everything up. Before you criticize the brake line is just temporary and will be replaced before she goes on the road.

Sounds like a plan. RB

Well I got quite a bit done today. Both shock mounts are finished. Put the diff cover on the 8.8 and painted it. Then I put a gallon of 80W90 in it and it's still not full so i'll be picking some more up. I filled the Tcase. I started to fill the tranny but ran out of 75W90. I filled the engine with oil and put on a new filter. I removed the old starter for auto and installed a manual starter. I primed and painted the sub frame and part of the gas tank skid plate and then ran out of paint. So being out of everything I was going to go to town but my truck won't start. First time in 6 years she hasn't started. I must have gotten some crappy Diesel fuel. She's plugged in now so we will see. Kinda goes along with everything else that's gone wrong. Anyone got a place Murffy can stay tonight so he'll leave me alone? RB

Well I figured out my glow plug relay was bad so i went to town to get a new one and while i was there I picked up some more oil and paint. So all the fluids are toped off except the antifreeze as there is no radiator yet and the front pig. I cleaned the spindles and put new bearings in them. I then put my axle shaves together. I then went through my lockout parts and threw a bunch of them in the parts washer to soak. I also knocked the studs out of the front hubs and threw the rotors away. I went threw my pile of rotors and decided they all need to go to the scrap yard. Tomorrow I'll clean the lockouts and then throw the hubs in the washer that way when my front pig parts show up this week I can rock N roll. I hope to have her on the trailer and too the Bumper guy Sat morning. I'll probably just spend the day there so I can drive it next week. Wont that be the bomb! RB

I picked up a pair of rotors. Wow are they cheap. >$20 each. I also have checked every place in town that sells steel or builds drive shafts for my drive shaft pipe with no luck. So a buddy of mine who works in Traverse City is going to check with Valley truck. If they don't have it I'm screwed. I cannot believe it's that hard to find. RB

try and find out if you have a Fleetpride close to you. If so try them, and if they can't help ya then you really are screwed.

ok just went their site and the closest fleetpride to you is in Toledo ohio, not sure how far of a drive that would be but I'm sure if the have something that they could ship it. Here's a number to call if you wanna try that: 800.333.3161 should be right to them Good luck man.

p.s. here is a linky to the info page I found, as well as a linky for the map, looks like they are right off of I-75.

Can you just use a piece of regular pipe or does it have to be a certain kind? I have to redo my front driveshaft to work with my new manual t-case.

Valley truck only had 18" of what I need but were able to order me a 72" piece for $50. So I'll have that tomorrow. You metropolitan guy's don't know how good you got it when it comes to parts stores. My 4 wheeling buddy said when he lived in IL he had a local store that sold just bearings but had every bearing imaginable in stock.:drool:
The Graveyard shipped my parts today so hopefully I'll have them by Friday. RB
