Advice wanted. Old 280k miles...not much money

Ok. I will just buy a HF torque wrench. Having a sale now. 2 dollars off. Oil money

for most things torque is unnecessary.

but head bolts, and rotating assemblies and wheels are something you need to know. wheels once you have a feel for them may not be a thing for steel...

Okay. good to know. Thank you

tough call on the hf stuff. i would say get a 250ft one. at least a 150.

you need several depending on what you get into. i work on all kinds of equipment so 14 inch pounds to 4000 ft pounds is the range i play in.

they have great cost effective options though...same as rural king or home depot ect.

they have several...i would say for a full size wrench this is the minimum. make sure you have a 1/2 to 3/8 adapter...which nominally tosses the reading...not worrisome though...it covers most ranger stuff....

this is a primary....but under 50 pounds is off the table....

if you have limited space a cube might just be the ticket.

this little guy for small stuff.

this is ideal for a single tool....my number one pick for a single purchase for a shadetree.

this monster for doing king pins and stuff...

very cost effective and ok quality. there is a you tube channel called the torque test channel and another called project farm.

very good data when you need to purchase tools and equipment to get good value for your hard earned dollars.....

and ave be warned.....some find his juvenile linguistics offensive......https://www.youtube.com/@arduinoversusevil2025....though he is alot more like me with ridiculous horrific language...just 10 times smarter....

free education at their skill levels is priceless

Ok. I will get the 1/2 inch 250 lb digital one. $45. Maybe it will be on sale. Looks dummy proof. Lol

normally i would not recommend anything with batteries, just make sure you keep batteries on hand and pull them out for long term storage.

the click type i prefer. because....batteries suck. and easier to damage electronic stuff when dropping it....which the cubes are easy to drop obviously....and you still want a breaker bar no matter what. to save on ratchet abuse. so...its not bad as long as you handle it right.

Yes this is true. Maybe I will get the cheap click one at HF. At least I will have one then

If you are going to be buying stuff at harbor freight sign up for their coupons with a junk email account. they spam you a bunch, but they also send out fantastic coupons (just don't let yourself justify buying X because they have a coupon for X - wait for a "20% off any one item"). The best coupons come out right before "men" holidays, memorial day, fathers day, 4th of july... depending on how big of a rush you are for items and how much you can wait - worth the wait sometimes.

I am only advocating signing up for coupons, NOT buying the membership to inside track - that is a decision that is all you... I passed on it.

Yes, thank you Brain 75. I do have the inside track membership. I saw a torque wrench 2 dollars off yesterday. I'm going to see if I can get that today. Like 16 dollars I think. Or check Amazon.

make sure that when you are done using the torque wrench each time you unwind the screw so you don't put it away with tension set on the spring

Okay thank you. Unwind the screw on the torque wrench when you are done so you don't put it away with tension. got it

I have that torque weench and it works just fine.

Personally if it were me though....unless its losing a quart of oil every 100 miles or something...id leave it alone and just check/add when needed. If you dont like it dripping in your driveway stick some cardboard under it.

As a plus if youre in a salty state its built ib rustproofing.

Yes, it has broken down like 4 or 5 times since I bought it 3 or 4 months ago. It is yard art now as we are tired of the stress. We don't trust it to go any distance really. It is so bad I don't see the harm as using it as a learning tool now. I want to pull the engine and do some cheap stuff to it when I get time--partly to gain some experience so I can put a $300 salvage yard engine in it later if I want to.
