So I have a 1984 Ranger that I swapped in the 4.0 in the 2.8L's place. It runs good, but my only problem is with acceleration, it kinda bogs out, I guess, and only picks up real acceleration when I mash it to the floor. I had trouble when I first did the swap with it having no power and could barely do 65mph, but we swapped all of the plugs, plug wires, and coil, and it helped a bunch, but I'm still having this little problem. Any help would be much appreciated.

I have not. I'll check into it. the only thing is that most people say their truck goes into "limp mode" when the tps goes out and mine isn't that bad its just really slow acceleration and you can hear it kinda bog out. but if you smash it to the wood then you can hear it all clear out and it feels like I hit a nasty powerband on a two stroke. Its insane the difference

The tps probably isnt part of the equation when full throttle is introduced. That might be why it feels better.

I replaced it last night (the tps) and it still wasn't helping it.

And your timing is correct? Not off a bit or stretched timing chain?

I haven't checked that. we just did the swap over winter. I was just hoping it was something easier before I have to start adjusting timing and things like that

Did you test the original TPS with a multimeter as shown in the link?

If you just replaced it with new, what brand?

New parts are notorious for being bad out of the box nowadays.

You should test the new one.

I didn't test it, I just figured it would be good to replace it anyway because a lot of that stuff was original anyway. It was Napa's Echlin brand.

I haven't seen a new TPS as accurate as the original Ford parts. All the new ones have very high idle and WOT spaces.
