Ac compressor

Hello every one, 1987 ranger 2.9 here
I'm looking to replace my ac compressor, but can't find one like this. Does anyone know what compressor this is? Thank you for any help in advance

Honestly do not know what that is....it is too short to be a vane type, there's no place for the wobble plate, and it's definitely not a piston type.

The compressor that should be there would be either a Sanden or a Nippondenso & they are much longer than what you have there.

It looks like something that someone has put in there.

I like the hose clamp on your AC line. Real classy and likely to blow off or leak.


This looks like either someone hacked something together out of parts from 1940, or possibly a dealer-installed setup, which was then later serviced with parts sourced from 1940.

Ha yeah I got a kick out of the clamps too. They will get replaced with correct hoses. I've looked to replace it with a different compressor, but then I run into the issue of the truck being set up with a v belt system. Back to the drawing board. Thank you for your help guys

I've seen that compressor on another truck a while back. 4 seasons AC has a bunch of different compressors for the early Rangers.
All 2.9 engines that I've seen have v belts.

Right, all 2.9s were V-belt. The AC was driven off another pulley that bolted to the end of the crank pulley. Water pump pulley had an extra slot for that belt too, IIRC.

That eases my mind a bit more. I just saw some of the other ac compresses pictures with ribbed pulleys and thought that was my only option. I think I could mount one of the FS6 compressors with minimal modifications. Thank you for all of the help guys

Maybe a trip to the pull apart to gather all the factory parts and put it back together how it should be. That's how I got my A/C running after a PO removed everything A/C related under the hood.
