? about where i want to start

i am thinking about starting with 2wd and converting into a 4wd ('93-'97) dropping an explorer 5.0 in and a manual.

would it be cheaper this way or start off 4wd and what would be the strongest tranny to put in?

It would most likely be cheaper to start with a 4x4. It would surely be faster to do it this way. But if you have the tools, time and a place to do it, go for it.
