I have an '88 with the motor, trans and gearbox from a BII. There is a metal tube pointing down by the cat that runs back toward the tranny but it's too tight to get hand n to follow it all the way. Could this be the vent tube? I really need to find this to make sure it is unplugged as I lost fluid the other day while driving. Also, can you tell me how it is connected - i.e. - bolted, pressed, welded, etc?

It should bolt in with the upper housing bolts. The tube is "U" shaped and has holes at the top.

I don't know what this tube is then. It is not "U" shaped. It comes down on the passenger side of the catalytic converter just aft of the tranny. It goes up a few inches then almost 90 degrees forward and up again then level again along the side of the tranny but I cant get my hand in there to "see" where it actually goes. I tried running a hanger up through it and some bits of sand looking stuff fell out, so that's what makes me think it might be plugged some.

Could possibly be the line for the vacuum modulator of the transmission. Does the truck shift OK?

It seems to shift OK, just a bit late (I think) into OD.

Where at in Illinois are you located?

Sounds like the vent tube to me. Passenger side, points straight at the ground.

Explorin94 - I live just south of Greenville, about an hour east of St. Louis.

Sasquatch_Ryda - So, is that on the driver side or the passenger side? And, is it back by the catalytic converter? How do you get to it?

Thanks for all the input. Another question; could the fluid exiting the vehicle be because it was low?
