i have searched and searched the forums and tech but with no luck concerning this particular swap. i have a 94 short bed, single cab with a 2.3 and an a4ld. i also have a 90 with a 2.9 and a mitsubishi fm132 5 speed. can i put the manual in my 94 and if so what am i going to need?

You could find a 2.3 mistu bellhousing and do it. I would recomend getting a 2.3 M5OD though, it's a much better trans.

i already have the mitsu so i kind of had my heart set on that. was this tranny used only behind the 2.9 or what luck will i have finding a bell for my 2.3

ZERO chance.

There was no Second generation bellhousing that accepts the "side connect"
slave cylinder.

The '95-87 "top connnect slave" bellhousing would fit the trans
but that requires a different slave cylinder and clutch line.

2wd 2.3 Mazda transmissions are the EASIEST mazda trans to find.
