a4ld question bad front seal??

whats the easiest way to diagnose a bad front seal on an a4ld in a 89 bronco II

If it leaks, it's bad. Just remember, the front converter bushing is quite prone to failure too and will give the illusion of just a bad seal. Unless the front bushing is properly inspected and repaired, replacing the seal will be a waste of time.
