Recently got 1991 Ford ranger supposedly with rebuilt trans. Anyhow after 3 short months the trans just quit, got another trans from salvage yard installed it had to use same torque converter so once I topped it off with fluid I shifted it into gear to circulate fluid and it jerked so hard I was in fear of f losing the driveshaft I've got a new torque converter now do you think this wasy problem?

Sorry to say, if the first transmission had serious problems, and had contaminated fluid in it, you just put that contaminated fluid in your new salvage yard transmission with that original torque converter. So the salvage yard transmission is now full of whatever was wrong with the original transmission. Been there, done that a long time ago when I was starting out.

You even need to flush the cooler out on the radiator when doing things like this. If you have a transmission blow up, you must clean the cooler or buy a new radiator.

These are the reasons most transmission shops will not do rebuilds where you bring the transmission to them. They do the whole job or they don't do it. Too many places to make mistakes.

When you say the rebuilt transmission “quit”, what exactly did it do?
