A what if.... STX Level II

After the axle swap I brought the truck over to my fathers work and aligned it.

You're the best thing to ever happen to this truck. :D(y)

If you ever do decide to put a new frame underneath that truck, try using rust bullet on it. I did the underside of my bed and rear frame about 2 1/2 years and it has held up great. A truck like that deserves to be kept around for a long time.

I stole the Alcoa wheels with 31x10.5x15 Goodyear Duratracs from the Shortbed as the current tires were getting old and dry rotted. That truck wasnt moving anywhere anytime soon as I had pulled the engine & trans out of it due to several teeth shearing off the flywheel. And for the next year and half I had no issues daily driving the STX to work every day.

The FX4 Level II shifter is worlds better then the standard ranger unit. Makes the driving experience much more enjoyable and gives the interior a nice finish. Would highly recommend if you are able to find one ?

Fast forward to April of 2019 I was coming home from work when the m5od decided to eat itself without warning. I still had 4th gear so I was able to limp the truck home in 4 low 4th gear with the front hubs unlocked. I parked the truck and took it off the road as I knew my new job left me very little free time to quickly get it fixed.

Funny enough, my parents had a '91 Explorer XL 4dr 5 speed 4wd in the early 2000s when I was a kid and it too blew its m5od on the highway. My parents ended up donating it for a tax write off lol. The Ranger in the background belonged to my uncle at the time, who bought it new in '91, gave it to my father in the late 2000, which then became my first ranger/vehicle which I still have today.

The month prior to the transmission blowing I got super lucky and scored a crusty '03 FX4 Level II off fb market for cheap.

I'm sure you all can see where this is going haha. So into the garage that truck went & out came the m5od-r1hd. I was going to use that transmission in the STX since I had it.

Lucky! How do you manage to find these trucks with Alcoa wheels?

Haha guess I'm just lucky. I've acquired 3 sets over the years. Unfortunately NY winters aren't kind so all have varying degree of corrosion under the clear coat. But they still look ok. I plan to have a set of them professionally restored some day.

I was thinking about trying to find a set for my truck, and get them coated in Dark Shadow Grey to match the paint. But whenever I find them they are either too far away or crazy expensive. Or without the center caps

Hey, odd question. I bought these being told they were 16in Mickey Thompsons for another project but after cleaning them up they are 15x7 alcoas from a 01-07 ranger. Would anyone here like them? I'm in mid-Ohio.

Somebody will jump on them. Many consider those to be the most desirable Ranger wheels.

those are nice, I scored a set of 15x8 m/t’s for 60- with tires! at first I thought they were eagle alloys or some other knock-off but found the m/t logo near the wheel lug holes when I cleaned them so I know they are the real deal. just need tires as these good years arent that good. Didnt come with center caps but I found some that would fit through summit.

Frog, If you were in NJ, I would be interested, but driving that distance would be too much, especially with everything going on right now. You should be able to get a pretty penny for them
