I heard that it was possible to change it out by separating the transmission from the engine.

Is that true for a 2011 2wd?

Well, that is how it has to be done. You can't change it with the transmission still attached to the engine.

You're really asking whether changing the seal could be done by dropping the transmission from the truck and leaving the engine in place, aren't you?

On our trucks: absolutely not. Transmission has to be removed, as does the flywheel, on any engine.

I can do a rear main on my Jeep with the engine & trans in place, just pull the oil pan and rear main bearing cap. It's a two piece seal so you rotate the old one out, rotate the new one in, same deal on the second piece, glue them together with anaerobic sealant, and put it all back together.

Sounds cool but the fawker will still leak afterwards so I'll take removing the trans any day...........
