A/C warm at idle cold on acceleration

@Jazzer @Shran @Uncle Gump

thanks for the help fellas. Your reading is correct, there is no orfice tube in the system. I replaced the whole evaporator and didn’t know to put the orfice tube back. I’ll pay the idiot tax to get it drained and charged with the tube installed.

That will make you much more comfortable.

DOH!!!

Yeah... you have to have one of those.

Actually... when you had the system filled at the shop... I find it had to believe they didn't spend even a minute looking at the gauges. Unless they just put the required amount of refrigerant in and then just wonder why it didn't blow cold.

A gauge set and the ability to read them should have picked up the fact that it wouldn't build enough pressure on the high side... and that pressure was a constant on both the low and high side. It really leads you to the orifice tube.

Maybe find a new A/C shop to do the deed this time around after you put an orifice tube back in.

@Uncle Gump
Ha, definitely going to a new shop.
They over charged me and I’m pretty sure they saw the new orfice tube that I failed to replace sitting in the center console. Instead of flagging it as a possibility for the problem I think they just took my money and said sorry, we don’t know why it’s not working.

Before you go putting the orifice in...

Did you add the required amount of oil in the system for the parts you replaced? This would be the time to do it while the system is gonna be open anyway.

Might even be worth taking it to a shop and having the refrigerant removed and just have them put the orifice tube in... then evac and recharge.

Yes, oil and additional dye was added. There was a lot of gook in the evap housing where the leak was. I got that part of the job right but not the orfice tube that came with the new evap housing.

I’m going to do that, I have the replacement orfice tube and if they’re going to evacuate it to do the charge, might as well use that gap to put the orfice tube in.

I appreciate the help and advice!

Well, glad it’s fixed, and thanks for reporting back. I still wonder how you had cold air on acceleration, though.

Well, there’s also a leak in the condenser. It was holding and passed the test, but I could see some UV dye. Maybe something to do with that?
