99 4.0L Dual Exhaust

I am looking at putting dual exhaust on my Ranger. I don't want to spend over $300. I want it to sound nice but not annoyingly loud. What have you guys done to your 4.0's? It is a 1999 4.0L with an Automatic. Ohh! Extended Cab also. What sounds the best?

The best sound I've heard out of one is simply a SINGLE glasspac. By putting 2 pipes and mufflers on there the sound pulses are devided and each pipe only has 3 cylinders to speak from. They sure don't sound like the V-8's we have become so accoustomed to hearing. But keeping all 6 pulses in one pipe don't sound so bad to my ears...others may hear differently than I do.

I have a 97 4.0 with an automatic. I put 40 series single in dual outlet with 2.5 in pipe its pretty loud when you want it to be but it sounds good.just ont gut ur cats if you get the 40 series. my buddy did it sounded like it was puking

i have the same thing. Sounds great. i was really nervous at first getting it put on cause i'm really picky about the sound. didn't want it to sound like a ricer. bought mine on ebay for 150. including pipe. it was welded for another 90. only thing i would change is switching to mandrel bent pipes and replacing the two cats to a single high flow.

i put a 2.25 inch cat back flowmaster on my 4.0L, i think it sounds good, but def could of went with the 2.5 inch..but that was 200ish all said and done, which was just the bent piping, and the flowmaster muffler

The v-6 misses the last two melodic tones of a perfect note when it comes to the sound of an engine. (not knocking it's performance)

Put whatever you want on it but always evaluate your cost to performance value before you bolt the part on.

Pipes

I always loved the sound of the Pontiac Grand Prix GT. I wonder if the exhaust from a wreck would sound as good on the 2007 4.0 ? No way could I buy it new from GM$$$$

I have a Gibson single system on my 4.0 Sport Trac, it sounds nice for a V6. Kinda loud inside the cab though. Cost about $350 but it was a slam-dunk to put on.

I have a single glasspack on mine with dual outs going into 3 1/2" tips. Sounds alot better than I thought it would, especially for a six-shooter. Mine also exits before the right-rear tire.

my first exhaust was yed after the cats and i had 12s on each pipe. it was quiet when you wanted it to be. you would like it. another combo is just on 18 before you y it off. its just as loud as the first one. you just dont have two glasspacks. also, look on ebay to get you muffler(s). there are some good deals on there. sometimes the exhaust shop sells mufflers and tips for a little too much. (at least around here they do. i saved about 40 bucks by buying my stuff on ebay). theres a guy that sells custom glasspacks. i have them on my truck and theyre nice.

flowmasters drone and rust, magnaflow sounds ok but i think a hooker max flow on a 4.0 sounds better and woulnt drone. Check out youtube these hundereds of clips with differnet exhaust setups
