Hi

Sorry if this is a repeat thread, I've had a search and cannot find an answer to my problem.

As seems to be the case with all of the these consoles the armrest and brackets are broken.

I want to take the console out and overhaul it, as LHD Explorers for a transplant are not too plentiful over here in the UK :-)

Looked at some of the posts and removed the little cap inside the console but there is no bolt behind it (am I looking in the right place?).

I suspect it may have been removed and "fixed" before? :-)

I have enclosed some piccies and any assistance would be appreciated please?

Is this where the bolt should be?

That is exactly where the bolt is supposed to be. If there's no bolt what is holding the arm rest on? Now it's been a while since I removed mine but I believe it's a torx screw. A T-40 maybe???

Bump

the 98 and up had supports on both sides, they are bolted in the bottom of the 60 seat

On the 98-01 rangers (possibly others), the bolt is a torx that is located at the pivot points (the plastic shown in the second picture). The bolts are on the outside of the console pointed in, not accessible from the inside, and are shoulder type bolts. You get at them by removing the outer plastic covers of the mounts after you lay the seat as far back as possible. The plastic cover of the mounts should slide up the mounts to come off.

Found them, thanks for all your help :-)

I'll post some pictures of the repair job.

Right I've got it out, now how do I strip it please?

I now have the console out, does anyone know how to get the inner shell out so that I can reach the lid screws please?

I can see the screws :-)

Thanks in advance

if you remove the carpet looking stuff there are 4 phillips head screws in the top and 4 in the bottom . then you will be able to get to the hinge which i believe is 4or5 screws

it is easier if you take the top part off first then the bottom will lift up out . you might have to wiggle the top first to get it to come out

Got it!!

Great Info thanks!

Got it apart now, the carpet stuff was glued which put me off a bit.

Now I can mend the lid :-)

96 60/40 Center Console, intact but bent

center console on my 96 ranger is bent to one side. I assume that this is either the console itself that is bent, or the spot where it anchors in the drivers seat is bent. Anyone have experience with this? Is there a fix for this without replacing parts?

there is a hex bolt in the console holding it to the seat that i have seen some peoples come loose and it make it wobble alot and not sit right it could be that
this is how to get to it

I'll take a look and see what I find out. It doesn't seem loose, but if I pull it off I might get a better idea what is going on.

I have a 1996 Ranger XLT that has taken issue with a the 60/40 flip down armrest/console. It cants to one side and the top lid stays open unless I have it tied down with a string. After researching Google I have been unable to find any suitable parts to replace this item. Do any of you have any reliable links that you would like to share?

I have a 1998 ranger xlt i have a problem with the 60/40 console when I put it up for someone to sit in it falls all the way back and it doesn't stop where its supposed to do anyone know how to fix it?
