I have a 98 2wd 2.5 5speed ranger.i want to swap in a carb 302 and t5.i know explorers are good v8s to use if ur going efi but i want carb.
Can i use any 302 and do i have to get a double sump pan.
What mounts can i use.frame and motor
I want to keep the ac
What do i use for a alternator and power steering pump
Can i use the stock radiator or better to get a ex rad
I would alsi like to keep it manual trans.would a t5 from a mustang be best choice and how can i keep the hydrolic clutch.
Im sure there will be more questions as i gather the parts and start the swap.
Oh and this is a budget build.kinda.lol.thanks for reading and thanks for all the help in advance

For my 95 I used the mustang mounts, Id suggest using the 4.0 mounts with an adapter plate though just because it makes it easier to remove and re-install later. The t-5 gets you into some issues with the clutch set up, I used an m5od-r2 which meant everything but the shifter just mounted up. I went with the e150 accessories and everything mounted up but the AIR pump and I deleted the AC compressor because I was forced to recess the radiator under the core support (no room for the condenser) and the HEI dist I used didn't leave enough room to install it. I am currently having a problem with my neutral safety switch no working since the computer is disconnected. There are lots of people who have done these swaps using the t-5 and they have posted a lot of options to make it work, but so you know you need to convert it to an external slave, and have a drive shaft made.

Good luck on your build and remember the search bar is the most usefully thing you will find.

How's it going? I have a 97 ranger that had a 2.3 that I did my swap on. I used the engine and trans out of an 89 mustang GT. I also used the accessories from the same vehicle as I had the entire vehicle to pull parts from. The car was also a convertible so I used the engine mounts from it as well. I deleted my power steering pump and made myself a loop line for the steering box for manual steering. Using the early model mustang accessories was a little of a hassle to work with for me as it doesn't provide as much radiator to engine clearance as the accessory drive off of a 5 liter explorer would. I am using the stock radiator out of a 4.0 ranger and I managed to stuff two 10 in electric fans on there but they are not strong enough to cool the engine during long idling so I'm just going to go with one bigger and more powerful fan. I would suggest going with an explorer 5.0 or at least using the explorer accessories because you will have more room on the front of the engine for your radiator, fans, and a/c condenser. I still have to figure something out so I can reinstall my a/c. Hope this helps.
