I will preface by saying I don’t know much about my trucks history.

I have a 2000 regular cab 4 cylinder manual. Pre-Swap, it is currently sitting at 19in from center of hub to fender. My truck does not looked sagged like other Rangers I’ve seen, but I also just don’t know.

So, I don’t want to go any lower in the front, and I’m generally happy with its current height. I could live with 1-2 higher in the front but nothing beyond that.

I was wondering given the additional weight of the V8 and automatic trans, I think I am going to need stronger springs?

Any recommendations, I can’t seem to find any comments on parts used and similar ride heights.

Stock aftermarket replacement V6 springs? 4 or 6 cyl specific 2in lift springs?

#1 Torsion bars from Tasca, and run with stock or leveling keys.

In 98 they switched from coil springs to torsion bars for front springs so go with Petroleum Junkies suggestions with the leveling keys to help with the added weight on the front.

Damn, my truck has some strange looking torsion bars then... Are they suppose to be all twisted in circles and mounted vertically? :icon_confused:

I thought when they swapped to IFS from the TIB/TTB suspension, which was done on the '98 model year/ Gen 4, they did away with Coil springs and went with Torsion bars... or am I wrong?

EDIT: Even the tech section has a section: All About Torsion Key Lifts For Your ’98-’11 Ranger

I don’t have a torsion bar truck, absolutely nothing torsion bar related will work for me.

98+ 2wd can have torsion bars or coil springs. I have a coil spring truck.

Do you have a local spring company? I know here we have a Superior Spring that deals with all sorts of springs that can help as long as you know what your weight will be. This brings in one factor with your swap, you need to have the swap performed to have the weight or the weight of the motor and the front of the truck without the engine, added together to get your standing weight to give them. They can then get you the springs needed.

OF course this is all dependent on having a spring company local to talk to and work with. I live in the sticks so most other places should have one.

Yes 98-11 trucks had BOTH coil and torsion setups.

From the few coil spring v8 swaps I've seen, stock 4.0 springs work perfectly fine with a 5.0.

That's weird. Why would they put coils springs AND torsion bars on the same truck. And how did they pack all that stuff under there. One would think the springs and bars would get in the way of each other. They might as well add some leafs to the front axle too.

Just... Go stand in the corner...

Good to know!

I’ve seen F150 coils mentioned for Pre-98 Trucks but that’s not applicable to 98+ right?
They're probably too long. Springs for a supercab V6 Ranger will be the ones you want.

Yea, no way I can see an f150 spring fitting under a 98+ ranger.
