97 3.0 engine fit 95 2.3 transmission?

I have a 3.0 out of a 97 Ranger, will this motor mate up to a 95 2.3 manual transmission? This is the stock transmission, dont know the model off hand but can get that information.

I started to swap into a 4.0 but was mislead by someone else not anyone on here, but was told the 4.0 would fit but it doesn't.

2.0, 2.3, 2.5 lima I4s share trans patterns
2.8, 2.9, 4.0 cologen V6s share trans patterns
the 3.0 vulcan is the odd man out and has its own pattern...

Bellhousings don't swap either.
