got a 85 ranger, and a 96 explorer with a 4.0. do i need the wiring harness under the dash too, or just the one under the hood? also will the sending unit and pump in the 96 xplorer gas tank fit in the the reanger, i have a tank from a 83 in the ranger. im planning to use aftermarket gauges,no factory.
also the cab that i got from a 85, did not have a wiring harness under the hood. just some wires and plugs hanging out the the fire wall on the driver side. i had a 2.8 in the ranger, so if i use the bell housing from the 4.0, will i be able to use the clutch off the 2.8? i also have a clutch for the 96 4.0.
any help would be appreciated

2.8 and 4.0 have the same bellhousing bolt pattern and therefore transmissions interchange..The 2.8 has a smaller clutch though and is minimal at best to handling the power though you can use the flywheel and clutch assy from the 2.8..
you won't be swapping bellhousings from any M5OD tranny as they are integrated into the case..

90-94 explorer would be a better swap all around...

You have to use the 4.0 clutch assembly and flywhell. But I wouldn't use the 2.8 tranny behind a 4.0, unless you keep your foot out of the throttle or your going to end up with a pile of scrap metal.

You don't HAVE to use the 4.0 clutch assy..It's just better to..
