Need to replace the cam position sensor on my 95 4.0. There are 2 variations. One has the sensor able to be replaced seperately from the syncronizer and is roudn and the other has it as an entire assembly. I have the later of the 2. I've called all the major parts places autozone, advance, carquest, napa) and even the ford dealer. Problem is the one I need which is one entire assembly is an obsolete part and no one can get it. My question is has anyone else had the issue and how did you fix it? Is the other assembly the same size or interchangeable so that I can put that module in with the newer style sensor and be able to replace it seperately and just splice my harness with a plug that fits the rounded sensor or what since all the newer sensors have been redisgned to the new rounded seperate assembly

That is a damn good question. I am having exactly the same problem. I guess 1995 was the only year ford put that poorly designed cam position sensor on 4.0s. Anyone have any ideas or suggestions?

i too have the older version in my 95. i found while changing a clutch that the CPS was broken. I ended up getting a new one off ebay, at a much discounted price. I haven't installed it. That was 4-5 years ago. but to this day, i cannot find the new one. it's probably at the bottom of a box somewhere, but i don't know which one.

btw, i daily drive this truck. just rolled 201k without any major mechanical repairs. i have a stall issue that happens after the truck has been idling for a long period of time (4-5 minutes). fires right back up. think it may be an 02 sensor issue.
