95 5.0 expo-ranger build thread

I'm thinking of using my original 4.0 motor mounts and using the explorer motor mount plates. I seen svt do this and was wondering if this would give me enough clearance in the front for some 10" electric fans?

Also I had a brain storm and wondered if I could keep my 4.0 manual trans radiator and just run the tranny lines into a tranny cooler? Didn't know if this would give sufficient cooling or not? My cooler I have is around a 10"-12" metal tranny cooler.

A little update also I removed my old steering box and after work I'm gonna go buy a new one. The truck has 200k+ miles so I figured I wouldn't try to adjust the slop out and since the motor is out right now it's a perfect time to change it!

You can use those, but if you use the slotted plates you will have about 2" more room. The 4.0 rad will work, but make sure its the 2 row, not the single row. I'm not using the trans cooler in my rad, only cause I picked up an aftermarket trans cooler that had stainless braided flex line from the cooler all the way to the trans...

What do you mean by the slotted plates?

What do you mean by the slotted plates?

Meaning instead of a simple 1/2" hole for the motor mount stud to pass through, its a long slotted cut out. This way you can slide the engine forward and backwards while its resting on the motor mounts. I wish I had a pic....

So I can take the explorer plates and slot them or no?

Got the new gear box installed. Much much tighter steering!

Yes, you probably can. You'll need to lift the driver side about 1.25" to level the motor though...

That's good to know about raising the driverside! I read somewhere that my motor mounts needed lowered down further on the cross member when using the 4.0 mounts/expo mount plate, is that correct?

No, unless you're swapping into a 1st/2nd gen...

That's good news! I'm gonna make a phone call tomorrow to see if I can get a bare 302 block to do test fits with cause my engine bay is painted now so I gotta be careful not to scratch it up bad.
I've done some research before buying stuff and from what I can tell this should be a pretty easy swap. I got a complete running driving 97 EB 5.0 2WD explorer to swap everything from so my fuel pressure is the same from what I understand and I don't have pats. I also confirmed I have a GT40 motor so my headers cost $150 instead of $750!! I am going on a fishing trip the first week in June so I gotta have it running by then for sure cause I gotta pull my boat. A week from this Saturday I'm gonna pull the motor out of the expo then I'm gonna hit it hard. Looking forward to this swap!!

Picked up a cowl hood tonight! For some reason I can't upload the pic. I think the file is to larger or something. Gonna maybe get a photo bucket app and go that route with my photos.

I called everywhere today and could not find a junk 302 block. I did find a 351w though. If I strip the manifolds off of it I could use that for a mock up block couldn't I?

Downloaded a photo bucket account... Let's try this

The 351W has a taller deck height, therefore making it slightly wider. Stick with the 302...
