95 2WD to 4WD

I have a 95 2WD 4L Ranger and have obtained a 91 4WD 4L Ranger that I wanted to use to convert the 95 to 4WD. It looks like the front cross member is different in the 2WD and 4WD versions. Is there a kit or other means to add the stock 4WD TTB to my 95 Ranger? Thanks for any leads/suggestions.

Remove the powertrain from both trucks, cut the crossmember out of both trucks and weld/bolt the 4wd crossmember into your truck.

Or do a solid axle swap.

Not really easy either way

In addition to what 85 said the steering box reinforcement on the driver's side covers one of the welds and several of the rivets holding the engine cross member in. This is held to the frame by two welds, each between about 18 and 24" long. Given where it sits cutting those welds is made much easier by removing the cab.


Oh, and you can't just slap a transfer case on the back of your 2wd transmission and call it a 4x4. That doesn't work either, so you need to take the trans and t-case from the 91.

Do a SAS if you want 4wd in your 2wd truck. Don’t bother with the TTB, waste of time.

Kinda hijacking here but no need to make a new thread.

on a 2wd 89 ranger. looking to builld a crawler out of it with an SAS and adding 4wd. no engine crossmember changes should be needed if im not keeping ttb right? just a 4x4 tranny and t case swap along with the rest of an SAS like a 4x4? just gonna have to cut a hole for the t case shifter?

The 2wd engine cross member comes down a lot lower than a 4x4. Most 2wd TIB to SA jobs either require a lot of lift, or the engine cross member be modified to not sit as low.
