Hi Bigfoot...please use the search button in the V8 Conversions part of this forum. There is way too much advice to recommend in only one message box.

If you have the Lightening you are best to use all the engine wiring from that truck and swap it over. If not you will have to do some junkyarding and find a harness. The lightening computer won't work for a 5spd, it will be looking for an E4OD automatick transmission. I would believe you could use a mustang computer to run it and get it tuned a little or save a few bucks and go aftermarket stand alone. For a manual I would not suggest the M5ODR2 as found in the F-150, not strong enough. Use the Zf 5spd, an older T18 or T19 4 speed and you'll be fine.

you can use the lightning computer no problem, i've been running my 94 lightning with a t5 5 speed for a few years now, just switched back to a e4od the other day actually.. all you'll need to do is leave the harness for the e4od attached with the neutral safety switch attached and the computer will think your in neutral while your actually shifting gears in your m5od-r2 or zf5 speeds.

That is a good call on leaving the switch in neutral. That thought was lost in the back of my mind.
