Not sure about rangers ,but I know that some of the ford vehicle's in the past had transmission counter weight's attached to the tranny mount area & if you loss it ,it can cause a flex plate to break. It happened to my parents 73 Ford LTD wagon when it was a few yrs old
Torque converter, wrong crank flange. your flexing it too much with no contact, or too much contact with the crank flange. the depth is not proper. either way the depth is incorrect and flexing the plate.
You are only going to break them like that in stock applications .
get a proper torque converter or flex plate for racing. summit has them.
The OEM Ford flexplate is flawed! Their is a technical service bullitin about this. Ford has made stronger replacement flexplate but their prices are a ripoff.
You can get better flexplate for about $25.00 from transmissionpartsusa.com.
