94 ranger 5.0 swap

I'm wanting to swap in a 302 into my 94 ranger, but i need to know if it would still be smog legal in California if i ran a carb instead of fuel injection.
Help?

I don't think you could get away with it being a carb. Since I am pretty sure Cali has the rule where any engine put in to replace a stock engine has to be from the same year or newer. You would have to find a 302 from a 94 plus and I don't think there is anything that had a carb that is that new.

Try swapping a fuel injected 5.0 from a 94-95 mustang or from any of the Explorers. I think that is the only legal way to do it in your Cali case.

You might be able to get away using a carb on a newer engine as long as all the emissions equipment is still used and you can put a carb on any 302 older or newer. I did this same swap a 94 Ranger with a 5.0l but I did EFI. EFI is not that hard to do with a aftermarket wiring harness like the one from RJM injection tech. and here is their website link.
