94 ranger 2.3, 4 bolt crank pulley removed, crank snout blocking timing belt


Once you have the belt on to your satisfactionbut before you put the plugs in. Rotate the crankshaft 2 complete revolutions. If the engine turns smoothly the whole way, it is good. Have a beer. :D

I do this with the mounting bolt for the tensioner loose, then once I run a couple rotations and everything lines back up fine I run the tensioner bolt down. Doing this draws excess slack out of the belt to keep things in time better. It may not look like there is any slack in the belt, but you would be surprised at how much can be present.
