When I had the tranny out I opened it up and pulled out some plastic pieces (probably from the non-existent shifter bushings). I'm putting everything back together and wondering if I should have changed the filter but I wouldn't know where to find it. Do manuals have a filter?

No, there's no filter.

Suggest you replace the rear seal and seal in the shift rail plugs (if they are rubber) while you have it out.

rear seal as in the joint going to the extension housing? Mine didn't have a seal there so I just siliconed it. Yeah, I went to replace the shift rail plugs because they had leaked all over the place but they had already been done before and I tore them to shit getting them out. Local Ford dealer is getting them for me in the morning for $6/piece.

$6 per plug? I got them for $.79 apiece at O'Reilly's. Even had a local store which had them in stock.

you can get it from ford but youll pay ford price, and when the other places dont have it you can count on ford to have it, just for ford price..."always use genuine quality ford parts" (when you cant find the cheaper stuff that meets or exceeds oem specs...)
