94 3.0 issues

I pulled the old motor becuase i couldnt get it running. It had a bad knock when it got turned over, so i pulled it to see if i could figure out what is wrong with it.

Also where is the motor id plate. How can i tell if the engine is a 4.0. The valve covers say nothing on my engine, but on the distributor engine the valve covers say 3.0 v6 on them and there flat. Mine are more rounded

I pulled the engine becuase i couldnt get it running, It had a bad knock in it when it turned over, i checked the timing chain and pulled the oil pan and couldnt find anything, the other motor is a 4.0 hte kid i bought it from is retarded, it says 4.0 right on the radiator support, i feel stupid for not looking there first.
