Hey guys I have a 95 YJ with an old and very tired 2.5 and AX5 that I really would like to get out of there. My father has a 4.0 with the 5 speed and tcase out of a low mileage 93 Ranger. He has the wiring harness and the computer as well. How hard would this be? I think I should be able to get the Ranger wiring diagram and amend it to work, no?

And before you tell me to search, I have. Everywhere. It's never been done and I've only seen one discussion on a Jeep forum and everyone told the guy he was stupid- just go with the Jeep 4.0. I, however, absolutely loved the 4.0 that was in my old Ranger and would like to put this free one in my gutless Jeep. Also, I'm asking more about how to make it run once it's in there. Getting it in will be the easy part.

you can make anything work . its just matter of if its worth it . your better off with a 4.0 l6 or an older carbed 258 (4.2l) l6 . you'll have to get the whole engine wiring harrness . the computer . and the interior wiring harness and fully replace the jeep wiring harness with the ranger harness . plus you'll need to fit a 4.0 ranger radiator into that small grill . plus you'll need to get new drive shafts and you also will have to use the B-W 13-54 transfer case whitch will mean you most likely will have the electronic shifting version . so you'll have to wire up a switch and so on for that to work . if your stuck on wanting a V engine you might wanna look into a chevy 350 v8 swap . good luck
