I'll repeat what AllanD said. You NEED to swap the entire engine compartment harness out. There is an ignition module for the EDIS on a 4.0 Truck that should be on the driver's side core support. On a 3.0 truck ( i have one now) there isn't such a thing..... as 94 and below 3.0 Rangers use a distributor. ALL 4.0 Rangers use EDIS.
I've been entertaining the idea of a 4.0 swap again. The first victim would have been my 2.3 4x4. But it ran out of life and I had to pick up another truck. I now have 3.0 4x4. The 3.0 is a nice upgrade in power, and would be a nice engine in a car......but not in my truck. It sucks on mileage the way i want to drive it. I need a low reving engine......like a 4.0. Too bad my 4.0 parts have seemed to disappeared.......
Now to get back onto subject.......
Just swap the main engine compartment harness out from one truck to another. There is a black plug over on the passenger side that you'll unplug( don't worry about the stuff that controls the HVAC stuff), then unhook it all around. Going from the light(headlights, and turn signals) plugs, to that ignition module I was taliking about, making your way to the driver's side fender, where you'll undo the fuse block, PCM plug, and that white cannon plug on the driver's side firewall. Don't forget the horn plug....It's way down beloow towards the core support. Lift both of them out of both trucks and swap. Then when you drop the 4.0 in plug the "on-engine" harness into the donor harness. Simple as that...... and your 4.0 will run when finshed.....
You have no need to swap out the interior wiring.....that's what the cannon plug is for. The pins should be in the right place.
