91 ranger ABS,delete

ok who's done it, what did you use?..ran out of light/time tonight to take a real look and see what I need.

Okay, found this year old + post doing a search. I want to eliminate the rear ABS on my '91 2wd Ranger. Can I just use an '86 rear brake hard line and remove the RABS unit from the frame rail or is there more to it. I wont be keeping the factory computer in my Ranger, doing a V-8 swap and running Mega Squirt II ECU.

Someone must have done this by now... please post any info/experiences.

I just bypassed it with a hard line.

The fittings take an 11mm flare nut wrench and are 1/4" thread. I used 2 1/4" unions and a 4" piece of 3/16" hard line with 1/4" inverted flare nuts on each end.

I left the RABS module on the frame rail and left the electrical connector plugged in, as with it unplugged you will get a RABS light on the dash all the time.

There is enough length of brake line routed through the RABS to use a proportioning valve to connect the existing lines, thereby killing 2 birds with one stone. Actually 3 birds, I was going to have to relocate the brakeline anyway to keep it away from the drivers side header collector.

The factory used a generous amount of line from the master to the RABS unit the way they routed it. Deleting the brake booster also put the master about 8 inches closer to the firewall so I'll have enough line to locate the valve within easy reach of the drivers seat.

Looks like I can mount it to the floorpan on top of the tunnel close to the left rear trans access cover bolt, near the left front corner of my shifter boot for the T-5 rearmost location.

Here you can see the left rear bolt hole... I'll likely mount the valve about 2 inches behind that hole.

This unit from SSBC is the one I'm thinking of getting...

I have been going through my new to me 1990 bronco II, which had a dead RABS module. I bypassed it and was finally able to successfully bleed the brakes.
I later discovered a constant brake-light on the dash.

Thanks to this thread, I pulled the RABS module out of the trash.
I removed the electrical component off the module, and plugged it back in to the connector on the frame-rail.

No more glaring brake light
